Ohio Wesleyan University senior Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) signed a professional contract with Minnesota Stars FC of the North American Soccer League, it was announced by the Stars on Thursday.
Wall was named NCAA Division III Player of the Year and was a first-team All-America selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He led the Battling Bishops and the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring with 19 goals and 15 assists in 2011, compiling 4 goals and 2 assists during Ohio Wesleyan's run to the NCAA Division III championship. Wall recorded points in each of the Bishops' 5 playoff games. He assisted the game-winning goal in Ohio Wesleyan's 1-0 win over Washington (Mo.) in second round. In the sectional semifinals, he had a goal and an assist, scoring the game-winner in the 86th minute, as Ohio Wesleyan overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat Ohio Northern 3-2. He scored what proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Hope in a national quarterfinal game, then scored to give Ohio Wesleyan a 2-0 lead in a 4-0 national semifinal win over Montclair State. In the national championship game, he scored the go-ahead goal in what would be a 2-1 win over Calvin. Wall was named the Most Outstanding Player - Offense of the national semifinals and championship game.
Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAA Division III championship, the second national title for the Battling Bishops. Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAC championship with a 9-0 record, the Bishops' 20th title in the 28 seasons of NCAC competition, and finished the season with a 23-2 overall record.
Minnesota Stars FC is the defending champion of the NASL. The Stars begin the 2012 season on April 14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
