Senior back Kit North (Powell/Bishop Watterson) converted a penalty kick in the closing minutes of regulation time to erase a 1-0 deficit, and 14th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan and Hiram went on to play to a 1-1 tie in the Bishops' North Coast Athletic Conference opener on Friday in Hiram. The tie extended Ohio Wesleyan's unbeaten string in NCAC competition to a conference-record 41 games, dating back to the 2007 season.
The Terriers had taken a 1-0 lead on Ryan Greenhill's penalty kick in the 29th minute.
Held to only 3 shots during the first half, Ohio Wesleyan outshot Hiram, 8-3, during the second half in an effort to come up with the equalizer. That came with 2:48 remaining in regulation time, when North stepped to the spot and sent a kick past Terrier keeper Joe Rottinger to make it a 1-1 game.
Neither team would put a shot on goal during the first overtime period, and Rottinger came up with a save in the second overtime to keep the game going.
On the other end, senior goalkeeper Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) saved both Terrier shots during the second extra session, preserving the tie.
Each team finished with 13 shots. Hendricks finished with 4 saves in the Bishop goal, while Rottinger had 5 saves for Hiram.
