Senior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) scored 21 of his career-high 28 points during the second half as 16th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan rallied for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Allegheny on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The win raised Ohio Wesleyan's record to 13-1, matching the best 14-game mark in school history .  The 1928-29 Battling Bishops opened the season with 13 straight wins before suffering an overtime loss at Wittenberg.

Allegheny took an early lead behind the scoring of Devone McLeod and the outside marksmanship of Ryan Stanko.  Stanko hit a pair of 3-pointers that turned an 18-14 Gator lead into a 24-14 margin, and McLeod followed with a lay-in to give Allegheny a 26-14 lead with 6:23 left in the first half.

The Gators still led, 31-20, with 3:20 remaining when the Bishops, who were shooting less than 20 percent from the field at one point during the first half, began to heat up.

Senior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) answered McLeod's lay-in with one of his own, then Winters sank a pair of free throws.  Junior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) followed with a 3-pointer to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 31-27 at the intermission, and Winters opened the second half with a 3-point play to make it a one-point game.

Allegheny caught a break when an inbounds pass by McLeod was deflected into the Bishop basket, and a McLeod 3-pointer on the Gators' next possession give the visitors a 36-30 lead less than 2 minutes into the second half.

Junior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) scored 3 straight Ohio Wesleyan buckets and Winters added a pair of lay-ins to complete a 10-4 scoring spree that evened the game at 40, and with the Gators holding a 47-46 lead, consecutive 3-pointers by freshman post Claude Gray (Avon) put the Bishops ahead to stay, making it a 52-47 game with 10:48 left.

Rieger sank a pair of free throws and buried a 3-pointer to push the Bishop lead to 71-61 with 1:43 remaining in regulation time.

The Gators rallied to within 75-70 as McLeod hit a pair of 3-pointers and D'Andre Corbin sank one, but senior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) hit the second of 2 free throws and Winters hit a pair of free throws to stretch the margin to 78-70 with :12 left.
