Sophomore tight end Calvin Cagney (Indialantic, Fla./Melbourne), junior quarterback Mason Espinosa (Cookeville, Tenn.), and sophomore kicker Miles MacKenzie (Denver, Colo./East) were first-team All-Ohio selections, while senior defensive end James Huddleston (Pontiac, Mich./Saint Marys Preparatory) and senior linebacker Tyler Sheetz (Eighty Four, Pa./Peters Township) were second-team All-Ohio picks.
Ohio Wesleyan head coach Tom Watts was named Ohio Division III Co-Coach of the Year in his first season as a head coach.
Cagney shared the North Coast Athletic Conference lead in receptions (6.6/game) and ranked seventh in the NCAC in receiving yardage (67.7/game). His 8 TD receptions shared the NCAA Division III lead among tight ends and ranked second overall in the NCAC.
Espinosa received the Mike Gregory Award as the NCAC's Offensive Player of the Year. He led the NCAC and ranked second in NCAA Division III in passing (31.9 completions/game), and was fourth in the nation in passing yardage (337.1/game). He also led the NCAC and ranked ninth in NCAA Division III in total offense (333.3 yards/game), and his 20 touchdown passes ranked second in the NCAC. Espinosa is the first Ohio Wesleyan player to receive the Mike Gregory Award since the NCAC began competition in 1984, and the first Battling Bishop to receive that honor since 1981, when Mike Wallace won the award that then recognized the Ohio Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Year. He is the seventh Battling Bishop to receive the Mike Gregory Award.
MacKenzie led NCAA Division III in field goals (1.8/game) and ranked third in NCAA Division III in kick scoring (8.3 points/game). He led the NCAC in kick scoring and ranked second in total scoring, and his 18 field goals set OWU and NCAC season records.
Huddleston spearheaded a Bishop defense that ranked second in NCAA Division III in sacks (4.7/game) and 10th in tackles for loss (8.7/game). He led the NCAC and ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in tackles for loss (2.3/game), and was third in the NCAC and tied for 19th nationally in sacks (1.0/game). His 71 total tackles tied for 22nd overall in the NCAC.
Sheetz shared the team lead and tied for 15th in the NCAC in total tackles (7.9/game). He intercepted 2 passes and broke up 2 others, and contributed 3 sacks and 6 tackles for loss.
The Battling Bishops finished the season with a 9-1 record. The 9 wins tied the school record for victories in a season. Ohio Wesleyan shared the NCAC championship with a 6-1 record, the Bishops' first conference title since 1989.
