Senior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) scored 4 points and freshman post Claude Gray (Avon) and senior guard Eric Easley (Columbus/Thomas Worthington) had 3 apiece as ninth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan erased a 9-point first-half deficit, but Hiram pulled away during the second half to record a North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Bishops on Wednesday in Hiram.
The loss snapped Ohio Wesleyan's winning streak at 10 games and was the Bishops' first setback of the season in NCAC play.
A free throw by senior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) gave Ohio Wesleyan an early 1-0 lead, but Hiram got 2-pointers from Justin Wisniewski and Aaron Stefanov to take a 6-2 advantage, then tacked on an Alan Sheppard 3-pointer and baskets by Sheppard and Justin Lonis to extend the margin to 13-4.
Back-to-back Morris baskets and a lay-in from senior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) brought the Bishops within 13-10, and a jumper by junior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and a Gray 3-pointer narrowed the gap to 16-15 with 11:01 remaining in the first half.
Easley's 3-pointer and a lay-in by junior wing Dre White (Lima/Bath) tied the game at 20 with 8:05 to play in the period.
Hiram answered with a 9-0 run, collecting a Chris Zurowski 3-pointer and baskets by Stefanov, Riley Moore, and Lonis to take a 29-20 lead.
Rieger hit a jumper from the lane with 1:27 left to end the Bishops' scoring drought, but the Terriers countered with a Josh Edmonson 3-pointer for a 32-22 lead.
Ohio Wesleyan still trailed by 10 early in the second half before closing to within 34-30 on a Morris jumper, a Rieger 3-pointer, and a Winters free throw, only to see Hiram respond with a 15-2 spree kicked off by a Steve Zivoder dunk on a putback and also featuring 3-pointers from Sheppard, Wisniewski, and Moore. Moore's 3-pointer gave the hosts a 49-32 lead with 13:39 to play, and the lead would remain in double digits through the remainder of the contest.
Morris led the Bishops with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Stefanov scored 13 points to lead 4 Terriers in double digits.
