Senior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) scored 8 points and senior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) added 5 more as Ohio Wesleyan finished off the first half with a 16-4 run and went on to post a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wabash on Wednesday in Crawfordsville, Ind.
The Bishops raced to an early 6-0 lead on a jumper by junior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange), a lay-in from senior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks), and a dunk by junior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley).
Wabash fought back to take a 13-12 lead on Marcus Kammrath's lay-in, but Ohio Wesleyan scored the next 5 points, tying the game on a Morris free throw before a pair of Winters free throws and a Rogers jumper made it 17-13 at the midway point of the half.
The Little Giants closed to within 23-22 on a pair of Houston Hodges free throws with 6:59 remaining.
After Morris split a pair of free throws at the 6:26 mark, Ohio Wesleyan got back-to-back lay-ins from Winters. Spaulding added a free throw, then Rieger and Spaulding buried 3-pointers sandwiched around a Winters jumper, and Winters finished off the half with a lay-in that gave the Bishops a 39-26 lead at the break.
Ohio Wesleyan added a 9-0 run early in the second half, collecting a Winters jumper on the break, a 3-point play from Morris, and buckets by Rogers and Winters to extend the margin to 53-29 with 15:45 left in regulation time, and the lead would remain in double digits throughout the remainder of the contest.
Morris led the Bishops with 20 points and 7 rebounds, while Rogers added 16 points. Winters also scored 16 points and led the Bishops with 9 assists, and Rieger finished with 13 points.
Andy Walsh led Wabash with 11 points.
