Ohio Wesleyan 63, Wittenberg 51

Senior wing Anjuwon Spence (Cranston, R.I./Moses Brown) scored 5 points and senior guard Eric Easley (Columbus/Thomas Worthington) buried a pivotal 3-pointer during a late 15-3 run that helped Ohio Wesleyan break open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wittenberg on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Wittenberg had closed to within 46-43 on consecutive baskets by Steven Newell and Ben Syroka, the latter with 11:41 left in regulation time.

Junior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) answered with a pair of free throws for Ohio Wesleyan, then freshman post Claude Gray (Avon) found senior post Marshall Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) for a lay-in before scoring on a fast break to extend the Bishop lead to 52-43 with 9:10 to play.

Syroka sank a 3-pointer to bring the Tigers within 52-46, but Easley knocked down a 3-pointer just 14 seconds later to push the lead back to 9 points.  Spence added a jumper from the lane and a 3-pointer to stretch the margin to 60-46 with 6:23 left, and Easley hit the second of 2 free throws to make it a 61-46 game with 3:11 left in regulation time.

Sam Collins hit a lay-in for Wittenberg to end the Tigers' scoring drought of nearly 6 minutes, but junior wing Dre White (Lima/Bath) answered with a lay-in at the other end to restore the 15-point lead, and the only scoring after that would be Zach Brashear's 3-pointer during the final minute.

The Tigers broke an early 4-4 tie with a Scott Masin lay-in and an Alex Fultz 3-poitner to take their biggest lead of the game, and Wittenberg still led by 4 points when Zach Leahy converted a 3-point play to make it 27-23 with 3:06 left in the first half.

White countered with a 3-point play on Ohio Wesleyan's ensuing possession, and the Bishops took the lead for good when Morris followed with a 3-point play, then added a pair of free throws to give Ohio Wesleyan a 31-27 lead with 1:51 remaining.

The Bishops opened the second half with scores by senior wing Vaughn Spaulding (Reynoldsburg) and junior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley), pushing the lead to 40-33, only to see Wittenberg twice rally to within 3 points.

Morris led the Bishops with 15 points, while White added 11 points.  Rogers grabbed a team-best 9 rebounds, and Easley and senior guard Andy Winters (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) shared the Ohio Wesleyan lead with 4 assists apiece.

Newell led Wittenberg with 10 points.
