Freshman right-side hitter Kacy Gurewitz (San Ramon, Calif./Dougherty Valley) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense as Ohio Wesleyan rallied from a 2-sets-to-1 deficit to force a winner-take-all fifth set, but Wooster edged the Bishops in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on Friday in Wooster.
The Fighting Scots defeated the Bishops by scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 24-26, 16-14.
Gurewitz collected 12 kills, posting a double-digit effort for the second straight outing. Freshman outside hitter Rylee Komminsk (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) followed with 7 kills, and senior outside hitter Katie Fain (Vandalia/Butler) and sophomore middle hitter Meigan Day (Port Clinton) added 6 kills apiece. Freshman setter Shannon Schlater (Englewood/Northmont) recorded 39 assists.
Defensive standouts for the Bishops included Day and senior middle hitter Tamra Londot (Utica), who had 2 blocks each; and sophomore libero Danielle Birney (Toledo/Sylvania Southview), who finished with a team-best 32 digs.
