Ohio Wesleyan 90, Capital 73

Senior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) buried a trio of 3-pointers during a first-half run that opened up a double-digit lead, and Ohio Wesleyan pulled away in the second half to record a non-conference win over Capital on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Freshman guard Seth Clark (Lewis Center/Olentangy) had broken a 4-4 tie with a 3-pointer, and the Bishops led, 7-6, after Capital's Andrew Bolka knocked down a jumper from the lane.

Rieger then drilled a pullup 3-pointer on the break, and after a hoop by sophomore post Matt Jeske (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), it was Rieger again from long range, this time hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to give Ohio Wesleyan an 18-7 lead with 12:20 left in the first half.

Clark hit another 3-pointer later in the half, and after a fast-break dunk by senior wing Dre White (Lima/Bath) and the second of a pair of 3-pointers from sophomore post Claude Gray (Avon), the Bishops opened up a 45-22 lead at the 1:39 mark of the period.

Michael Green sank a 3-pointer and converted a 3-point play to bring the Crusaders within 47-28 at the break, and Capital pulled within 47-30 when Tyrel Jackson opened the second half with a jumper.

White then fueled an 11-0 Ohio Wesleyan 11-0 run, contributing a jumper from the lane, a tip-in, a lay-in, and a pair of free throws as the Bishops extended the margin to 58-30 with 14:07 left in the game.

Capital made things interesting, getting a 3-pointer from A.J. Dixon, a lay-in and a pair of free throws from Jared Cashen, and a pair of 3-pointers from Kersey Long during a 22-7 spree that brought the visitors within 65-52 with 8:58 to play.

Ohio Wesleyan doused the Crusader rally with a lay-in from freshman guard Ben Simpson (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest), a Rieger 3-pointer, and a Jeske jumper, and shortly thereafter, Gray buried a pair of 3-pointers to push the lead to 78-56 with 5:46 to go.

Rieger led the Bishops with 20 points.  Clark finished with season bests of 18 points and 8 assists, White matched his career best with 16 points and dished out a career-high 6 assists, Gray added 14 points, and Jeske scored a career-high 10 points.  Senior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) led the Bishops with 9 rebounds.

Green led Capital with 12 points.
