Freshman guard Seth Clark (Lewis Center/Olentangy) scored the game's final 3 points to lift Ohio Wesleyan to an overtime win over Hiram in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Saturday in Hiram.
Hiram had taken a 67-66 lead on Aaron Stefanov's 3-pointer with 1:30 left in the overtime period.
Clark answered with a lay-in on Ohio Wesleyan's next possession, courtesy of a feed from senior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange), giving a Bishops with 68-67 lead with 1:01 to play.
After Stefanov misfired on a 3-pointer, Clark was fouled and hit the second of 2 free throws for a 69-67 Bishop lead with :33 left.
Chris Zurowski missed a potential game-winning 3-point attempt for the Terriers and Clark cleared the rebound to seal the win.
Clark's lay-in with 5:24 left in the first half gave the Bishops their biggest lead of the game at 28-20, and Ohio Wesleyan still held a 36-28 lead with less than 2 minutes to play in the period before a Stefanov 3-pointer brought the Terriers within 36-31 at the half.
Senior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) opened the second half with a jumper from the lane to push the Bishop lead back to 7 points, and Ohio Wesleyan still led, 46-42, on a Clark jumper with 13:45 left in regulation time.
Hiram took the lead with a 15-3 run capped by a Stefanov 3-pointer that gave the Terriers a 57-49 lead with 5:45 left.
Rogers followed with a jumper from the lane to end Ohio Wesleyan's spell of one basket in 8-plus minutes, but a Josh Edmonson 3-pointer provided the hosts with a 60-51 lead, their biggest of the contest, with 4:51 to play.
Ohio Wesleyan would hold Hiram scoreless from the field during the remainder of regulation time, narrowing the margin to 4 points on jumpers by senior wing Dre White (Lima/Bath) and sophomore post Matt Jeske (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), sandwiched around a Clark free throw.
A pair of Stefanov free throws made it a 62-56 game with 3:57 to play, but the Bishops evened the game on a Rogers jumper frmo the lane and a pair of White lay-ins. Ohio Wesleyan had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation play, but Jeske and Rieger misfired on jumpers during the closing seconds.
Clark led the Bishops with 18 points and 9 rebounds, both season bests. Jeske finished with 14 points, also a season best, and Rogers added 12 points. White finished with 10 points and a team-high 4 assists.
Stefanov led all players with 20 points.
