Box Score
Wooster 79, Ohio Wesleyan 71

Senior wing Dre White (Lima/Bath) and senior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) hit lay-ins to cap a 17-6 second-half run that pared an 18-point deficit to 7, but third-ranked Wooster withstood the threat and held on for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Wooster broke a 4-4 tie with a 9-0 run that included lay-ins by Doug Thorpe and Dan Fanelly sandwiched around a Kenny DeBoer 3-pointer, and the Fighting Scots would extend the margin to 11 points on Thorpe's 3-pointer with 11:41 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan fought back with lay-ins by senior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) and White, and when Rieger converted a 3-point play at the 7:10 mark of the half, the Bishops had narrowed the gap to 21-18.

Wooster answered with a 10-2 run that included 3-pointers by Scott Purcell and Thorpe, and the visitors would lead by a 39-27 margin at the half, which ended with Ohio Wesleyan going 0-for-8 from 3-point range.

The Scots pushed the lead to 18 points when a pair of DeBoer free throws made it 55-37 with 15:03 left in the contest, and the visitors still held an 18-point lead at 66-48 with 10:16 to play.

Freshman guard Seth Clark (Lewis Center/Olentangy) hit a lay-in, and Rogers followed with a lay-in before junior wing Nick Felhaber (Holland/Toledo St. John's) sank a 3-pointer.  Clark's fast-break lay-in, followed by a Rogers jumper from the lane, brought the Bishops within 70-61 with 5:20 left, and a Rieger lay-in narrowed the margin to 72-65 with exactly 3 minutes to play.

Ohio Wesleyan recorded stops on Wooster's next 2 possessions, but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity, turning the ball over both times.  The teams traded points twice, and White's lay-in with :28 left made it a 2-possession game at 77-71, but that was as close as the Bishops would come.

Rogers led the Bishops with 18 points and shared the team lead with 8 rebounds.  Clark added 17 points, shared the team lead with 8 boards, and dished out a team-high 5 assists, White scored 16 points, and Rieger finished with 10 points.

Thorpe led Wooster with 18 points.
