Senior middle hitter Tamra Londot (Utica) and sophomore middle hitter Meigan Day (Port Clinton) posted double-digit performances in kills to lead Ohio Wesleyan to a pair of wins during the second day of the annual Bishop Invitational on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops defeated Earlham by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-19, then defeated Grove City by scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22.

Ohio Wesleyan reeled off 9 straight points to take the lead in the first set against Earlham, breaking a 3-3 tie as Day compiled a pair of blocks and a kill and senior outside hitter Katie Fain (Vandalia/Butler) blasted 2 more kills.  The Quakers rallied in the late going, closing to within 24-20 as Jolene Wells had a pair of kills and Jazmyn Corlew had a block and a kill, but the Bishops ended the match on Mikah Sizemore's attack error.

Day helped the Bishops pull away again in the second set, picking up 4 kills during a 9-1 burst that turned a 6-5 deficit into a 14-7 lead.  Freshman outside hitter Rylee Komminsk (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) added a pair of kills during that run, and Londot provided a pair of kills down the stretch as the Bishops closed out the set.

The third set was close most of the way, with Earlham pulling within 15-14 on Wells' kill, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with a quick 5-1 run that included a block and a kill from Londot and a service ace by sophomore defensive specialist Bridget Haag (Parma/Normandy).  The Bishops finished off the match as Day and freshman setter Shannon Schlater (Englewood/Northmont) combined on a block.

Day led the Bishops with 12 kills, while Londot finished with 9.  Schlater dished out 27 assists.  Day had a team-high 7 blocks, and sophomore libero Danielle Birney (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) led the way with 13 digs.

Against Grove City, a block by Schlater and Londot kicked off an 11-2 run that extended an 11-10 Bishop lead into a 22-12 margin.  Schlater had 2 kills and an ace during that run, and Day combined on a pair of blocks down the stretch to help Ohio Wesleyan win the set.

Ohio Wesleyan built an early lead in the second set, erasing a 6-5 deficit with a run of 6 straight points that included kills from Londot, Schlater, and Day.  The Wolverines came back to tie the set at 14 on Ashley Branch's block, and Grove City later got 3 consecutive kills by Christa Currier to take a 17-14 lead.  The Bishops came back to within 22-21 on kills by Londot, Day, and Schlater, and after a Branch kill made it 23-21, back-to-back Londot kills evened the score at 23.  Grove City answered with consecutive kills by Branch to end the set and even the match.

Grove City erased a 15-10 deficit in the third set, running off 7 straight points as Natalija Galens had a pair of kills, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with 4 straight points to take the lead for good.  Komminsk ended the Wolverine run with a kill, and Day added 2 kills that gave the Bishops a 19-17 lead.   Key kills by Londot and Schrader extended the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 24-20, and Londot ended the set with a kill that gave the Bishops a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth set was a nailbiter that saw neither team lead by more than 3 points.  Ohio Wesleyan opened the set with kills from Fain and Londot on the way to a 3-0 lead, and Grove City answered with 6 straight points that included 3 Galens kills.  Five ties later, with the set deadlocked at 18, Ohio Wesleyan got a pair of kills from Londot on the way to a 23-20 advantage.  The Wolverines closed the gap to 23-22 as Branch had a kill and a block, but the Bishops ended the match with kills from Londot and Schlater.
