Sophomore middle hitter Meigan Day (Port Clinton) pounded out 11 kills and freshman outside hitter McKenna Kasper (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) and senior outside hitter Katie Fain (Vandalia/Butler) added 9 apiece, but Oberlin edged Ohio Wesleyan in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on Saturday in Oberlin.

The Yeowomen defeated the Bishops by scores of 26-24, 26-24, 25-23.

Ohio Wesleyan built an early lead in the first set, getting consecutive service aces from sophomore libero Danielle Birney (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) to take a 7-4 advantage, and the Bishops led by as many as 5 points at 13-8.  Oberlin rallied to tie the set at 14, then took a 22-19 lead on Christine Antonsen's service ace, only to see Ohio Wesleyan come back to tie the score at 22 as Kasper contributed a kill and a block.  Facing set point, the Bishops stayed alive, tying the score at 24 on Jillian Hostetler's attack error, but Oberlin got the final 2 points of the set on a ball handling error by Birney and an attack error by senior middle hitter Tamra Londot (Utica).

The second set unfolded in similar fashion, with both teams holding leads only to see the other come back.  Kills by Day and Kasper gave the Bishops a 20-17 lead, but Oberlin answered with a 5-0 run that included kills by Antonsen and Meredith Leung.  A Hannah Tyburski kill put Oberlin at set point, but the Bishops once again kept alive, evening the score at 24 on Shavonne Stanek's attack error.  The Yeowomen then got kills from Hostetler and Ave Spencer to take the set.

Day delivered a kill that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 20-16 lead in the third set, kills by Kasper and Fain helped the Bishops to a 23-20 advantage, but Oberlin rallied to close out the set and the match on a Hostetler kill.

Day's 11 kills led the Bishops, while Kasper and Fain finished with 9 each.  Freshman setter Shannon Schlater (Englewood/Northmont) recorded 39 assists.

Day and Fain shared the team lead with 3 blocks apiece, and Birney had a team-high 17 digs.
