Senior guard Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and senior wing Dre White (Lima/Bath) scored 5 points apiece during a 12-0 second-half run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay in a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Allegheny on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.
Ohio Wesleyan took an early lead as sophomore post Claude Gray (Avon) sank a 3-pointer and Rieger followed with 6 consecutive points during a 9-2 run that put the Bishops ahead, 14-8.
Allegheny closed the first half with a 14-7 run that featured 7 points from Josh Valentic and took a 40-36 lead into the locker room.
Gray opened the second half with a pair of lay-ins to even the game at 40, but Brandon Smith's jumper gave the Gators a 42-40 lead at the 18:23 mark.
White kicked off the Bishops' 12-0 run with a lay-in, and senior post Reuel Rogers (Columbus/Bexley) followed with a jumper before Rieger hit a pair of free throws and converted a 3-point play. White followed with a 3-point play of his own to extend the margin to 52-42 with 14:53 left in regulation time.
Brandon Smith and Ryan Stanko helped the Gators rally to within 58-54 with 8:55 to play, but junior wing Nick Felhaber (Holland/Toledo St. John's) buried a 3-pointer and White followed with a steal and dunk to push the lead back to 9 points, and shortly thereafter, a 3-pointer by freshman guard Seth Clark (Lewis Center/Olentangy) increased the lead to a dozen with less than 5 minutes to play.
Rieger led the Bishops with 20 points, while Gray added 14 points. Clark and sophomore post Matt Jeske (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) had 12 points apiece, and White kicked in 11 points. Rogers led the Bishops with 7 rebounds.
Stanko led Allegheny with 17 points.
