Men's Soccer, Kenyon Tie in Key NCAC Tilt

Ohio Wesleyan and Kenyon played to a scoreless tie in a key North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday in Gambier.

Ohio Wesleyan, ranked No. 18 in this week's D3soccer.com poll, entered the game atop the NCAC standings with a 5-0-0 record.  Kenyon, ranked No. 6 in the D3soccer.com poll, was tied for second place in the conference standings with a 4-1-0 record.

The deadlock leaves the Bishops alone in first place with a 5-0-1 record, with Kenyon in second place at 4-1-1.

Kenyon's Jordan Glassman had the game's first scoring chance with a shot midway through the first half, but junior goalkeeper Colin Beemiller (Pickerington/North) was there for the save.

Junior midfielder Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.) had a chance to put the Bishops ahead in the 31st minute, but his shot hit the post.

Beemiller stopped a shot by Rei Mitsuyama in the 53rd minute, preserving the 0-0 tie.

Ohio Wesleyan threatened in the closing minutes of regulation time, with senior midfielder Colton Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and senior forward Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) firing shots, but Kenyon keeper Sam Clougher made the save both times.

Rieger's shot in the 94th minute went wide of the Kenyon goal, and sophomore forward Kyle Baum (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) had the only shot on goal during the first overtime session, but Clougher made the stop in the 98th minute.

Kenyon outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 11-9.  Beemiller finished with 2 saves in recording the shutout, the Bishops' fifth in a row.  Clougher recorded 3 saves for the Lords.
