Box Score Ohio Wesleyan 4, Wittenberg 0Senior midfielder Colton Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) recorded a hat trick to power 17th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan past Wittenberg in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Saturday in Springfield.
Bloecher put the Bishops on the scoreboard by converting a penalty kick less than 2 minutes into the game.
Sophomore midfielder Nick Norman (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) increased the Bishop lead to 2-0 when he weaved through the Tiger defense and shot across the goal mouth with 11:25 left in the first half.
Bloecher tallied his second goal of the evening early in the second half, heading home a corner kick off the foot of junior midfielder Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.) in the 56th minute.
Bloecher completed the hat trick in the 64th minute, fielding a pass from sophomore forward Kyle Baum (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and firing a shot past Wittenberg keeper James Van Artsdalen. Bloecher also was the last Ohio Wesleyan player to rack up a hat trick, doing so against Case Reserve on Sept. 26, 2012.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wittenberg, 22-8. Sophomore Ben Farynowski (Columbus/Grandview Heights) made 3 saves in recording the shutout. Van Artsdalen finished with 7 saves in the Tiger goal.
