Senior forward Colton Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) scored to wipe out a 1-0 deficit, and junior back Evan Lee (Toledo/St. Johns) converted the deciding penalty kick in the shootout as 14th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan moved on in the NCAA Division III tournament by outscoring fourth-ranked Calvin on penalty kicks after the teams played to a 1-1 tie in a second-round matchup of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday at Hope College in Holland, Mich.

Ohio Wesleyan will face the winner of Sunday's game between Kenyon and Thomas More in a sectional semifinal game to be played either Friday, Nov. 21, or Saturday, Nov. 22, on the campus of one of the competing institutions.

The Bishops took the lead in the shootout when Bloecher converted the first kick and Calvin's Sean Broekhuizen sent his kick wide of the left post.  Ohio Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead after junior midfielder Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.) made his kick and senior goalkeeper Colin Beemiller (Pickerington/North) saved the kick of Calvin's Stephan Hooker.

Junior midfielder Lonnie Barnes (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) followed with a successful kick to make it 3-0, but facing elimination, the Knights stayed alive when Travis Vegter made his kick.

Calvin netminder Niko Giantsopoulos saved a kick by senior forward Taylor Rieger (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange), and the Knights closed to within 3-2 when Sam Hanover made his kick.

Lee stepped to the spot with the chance to end the shootout with a successful kick, and he converted the opportunity to move Ohio Wesleyan into the third round.

Each team had a scoring chance during the early action, with Beemiller stopping a shot by Vegter in the 14th minute and Rieger testing Giantsopoulos in the 16th minute only to see the Knight keeper make the stop.

Calvin took the lead in the 20th minute when the Knights drew a foul just inside the right side of the penalty area.  Nick Groenewold stepped up to the spot and sent his kick just beyond the reach of a diving Beemiller and inside the left post for a 1-0 Calvin lead.

Junior midfielder Gunnar Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) put a pair of shots on goal during the waning minutes of the first half, with Giantsopoulos there for the save both times.

Early in the second half, junior back Matt DiCesare (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) fired a shot that Giantsopoulos saved.

Rieger got off a shot in the 55th minute that the Knight defense cleared off the line, and a shot by junior midfielder Ricardo Balmaceda (Houston, Texas/The Village School) in the 72nd minute was stopped by Giantsopoulos.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the game in the 81st minute, drawing a foul inside the penalty area.  Bloecher stepped to the spot and converted the penalty kick with 9:14 left in regulation time.

Less than a minute later, Rieger had a look at the go-ahead goal, only to see Giantsopoulos make the save.

Beemiller stood out in the first overtime period, making saves on shots by Isky Van Doorne in the 94th minute and on Broekhuizen with :23 left in the period, and fortune smiled upon the Bishops when Vegter's shot hit the crossbar in the 99th minute.

The Knights hit the crossbar again early in the second overtime, this time on a header by Taylor Pruis :51 into the period.

Schaefer had the Bishops' best look of the second overtime, sending a shot just wide right in the 109th minute.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Calvin, 16-15.  Beemiller recorded 4 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.  Giantsopoulos finished with 8 saves for Calvin.
