Box Score Calvin 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1Senior midfielder Colton Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) scored to give eighth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan a first-half lead, but Calvin evened the game in the second half and got the game-winner in overtime to edge the Bishops in the first round of the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament on Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Bishop goal was set up by junior forward Evan Lee (Toledo/St. Johns), who fired a shot at the Knight goal. Calvin netminder Niko Giantsopulos was there for the save, but the rebound went to Bloecher, who deposited the ball into the Knight goal with 14:08 left in the first half.
Senior Colin Beemiller (Pickerington/North) preserved the lead once, stopping a shot by Calvin's Taylor Pruis in the 56th minute.
The Knights evened the score in the 61st minute when Isky Van Doorne sent a corner kick into the box to Nick Groenewold, whose shot was true to make it 1-1.
Beemiller made 3 more saves during the remainder of regulation time, keeping the game at 1-1, but the hosts scored 1:36 into the first overtime period when Stephan Hooker took a pass inside the box and found the back of the net. Pruis and Sean Broekhuizen were credited with assists on the play.
Calvin outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 16-7. Beemiller finished with 6 saves, while Giantsopoulos had 2 saves for the Knights.
