Men's Soccer Defeats Baldwin Wallace

Junior midfielder Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.) scored Ohio Wesleyan's first 2 goals as the 22nd-ranked Bishops built a 3-0 lead and went on to defeat Baldwin Wallace in non-conference play on Saturday in Berea.

Schaefer put the Bishops on the scoreboard in the 14th minute, with junior forward Evan Lee (Toledo/St. Johns) credited with an assist on the play.

Schaefer had another look at the Yellow Jacket goal midway through the half, but BW keeper Ryan Asbury was there for the save.

The Ohio Wesleyan defense limited the hosts to a single shot during the the first half, with senior goalkeeper Colin Beemiller (Pickerington/North) running down a drive by Justin Ball in the 39th minute.

The Bishops added to their lead early in the second half on Schaefer's second goal of the game.  Junior forward Matt Cohen (Cincinnati/Seven Hills) was credited with an assist on the goal.

Senior midfielder Colton Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) tallied an unassisted goal in the 58th minute, giving the Bishops a 3-0 lead.

Baldwin Wallace got on the scoreboard shortly thereafter, with Zach Smith scoring an unassisted goal in the 59th minute.

Beemiller snared a header by Bill Gamble just over a minute later to keep the game at 3-1, then stopped a shot by Eric Sokol with just over 10 minutes to play in regulation time.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Baldwin Wallace, 16-8.  Beemiller finished with 3 saves for Ohio Wesleyan, while Asbury posted 5 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
