With the win, Ohio Wesleyan is alone in first place in the NCAC with a record of 5-0-1. Kenyon, a 4-1 winner over Hiram on Tuesday, moves into second place at 5-1-0, and DePauw is in third place at 4-1-1.
Baum's game-winner came courtesy of an assist from senior back Evan Lee (Toledo/St. John's), Lee's second helper of the game.
The Bishop defense took over from there, allowing only one dangerous chance the rest of the way, that coming in the 88th minute when a shot by Mitch Reavis was blocked and E.J. Moore got to the ball and followed with a shot that was saved by junior goalkeeper Ben Farynowski (Grandview Heights).
Ohio Wesleyan had game's first scoring chance, with the Bishops earning a corner kick in the sixth minute and junior back Nick Norman (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) sending a header toward the Tiger goal that DePauw keeper Chris Yount chased down.
The Tigers took the lead midway through the first half when Julian Gonzalez got loose on a breakaway and buried the shot for a 1-0 advantage.
Headers by Norman in the 26th minute and by sophomore back Trey Olsen (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) in the 35th minute were saved by Yount, keeping the Tigers in front, and DePauw nearly added to its lead when a shot by Gonzalez hit the post in the 40th minute.
Ohio Wesleyan countered, and just 24 seconds later, senior midfielder Lonnie Barnes (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) provided the equalizer, fielding a pass from senior midfielder Gunnar Bloecher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) from the right post and finishing the chance with 5:33 left in the first half.
Junior midfielder Phoenix Neitzelt (Delaware/Hayes) scored the go-ahead goal in the 50th minute, taking a pass from Lee and ringing up a shot from the middle of the box to make it a 2-1 game in favor of the Bishops.
Senior back Mason Hoge (Mason) had a look at an insurance goal, but his shot was stopped by Yount in the 58th minute.
Gonzalez got the equalizer for DePauw in the 65th minute, with Reavis credited with an assist on the play.
The Bishops turned up the pressure on the Tiger goal, with Baum squeezing off a shot in the 71st minute, senior forward Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.) lining up a shot in the 77th minute, and Hoge firing a shot in the 78th minute, only to see Yount save each one.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Allegheny, 18-14. Farynowski was credited with 1 save. Young finished with 7 saves in the Tiger goal.
