Three Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Great Lakes Region teams, it was announced today by the NSCAA.
Senior midfielder Lonnie Barnes (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) and senior forward Brian Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.) were first-team all-region selections, while senior back Evan Lee (Toledo/St. John's) was a second-team all-region pick.
Barnes ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 6 goals and 7 assists. The 7 assists tied for second in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the 19 points tied for eighth in the conference. Barnes was a second-team All-NCAC choice last season.
Schaefer, the NCAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the Bishops in scoring with 15 goals and 11 assists. His 15 goals ranked second in the NCAC, his 11 assists led the conference, his 41 points shared the league lead, and his 4 game-winning goals tied for third in the NCAC. Schaefer was a first-team all-region selection in 2014 and a second-team all-region pick in 2013.
Lee, the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year, was a starter on a Bishop defense that compiled 9 shutouts and a 0.97 goals-against average this season. Lee contributed 3 goals and 7 assists on the offensive end, with the 7 assists tied for second in the NCAC. Lee was a second-team all-region pick in 2014.
The Battling Bishops finished the season with a 16-5-2 record. Ohio Wesleyan made its NCAA-record 38th Division III playoff appearance, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
