Ohio Wesleyan 98, Ramapo 69

Senior guard Seth Clark (Lewis Center/Olentangy) scored 14 points during the first half as 14th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan built a double-digit lead and went on to set 3 school records en route to a win over sixth-ranked Ramapo at the D3hoops.com Classic on Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Roadrunners sprinted to a 6-0 lead, opening the game with a putback by Thomas Bonacum, a free throw from Josh Ford, and a 3-pointer by Nick Stanek.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the score as sophomore post Grant Gossard (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) and Clark drilled 3-pointers just 28 seconds apart.

Ramapo's Ford hit the first of 2 free throws to break a 10-10 tie with 14:22 left in the first half, but the Bishops responded with a pair of free throws by senior guard Nate Axelrod (Dublin/Coffman) to take the lead for good before Clark buried another 3-pointer.

Clark, sophomore guard Jaret Gerber (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), sophomore post Derrick Wyche (Lewis Center/Olentangy), and sophomore wing Nick Heidel (Cincinnati/Indian Hill) connected from long range during a 12-4 burst that opened up a 27-17 Ohio Wesleyan lead midway through the first half.

The Roadrunners rallied to within 30-25 on a Connor Romano 3-pointer, and were still within 36-29 after a pair of Ford free throws late in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan countered with an 8-0 run that included a jumper and a 3-pointer by Clark and a Heidel 3-pointer, stretching the margin to 44-29 with 2:22 left in the period.  The Bishops would lead by a 47-35 count at the intermission, and Ohio Wesleyan pulled away during the second half.

Clark led the Bishops with 25 points and 8 rebounds.  Axelrod finished with 18 points and a team-high 7 assists, and Heidel added a career-high 17 points.

Ohio Wesleyan went 25-for-53 from 3-point range during the game.  The 25 trifectas broke the school mark of 23 set against DePauw on Dec. 2, 2017 and tied the North Coast Athletic Conference mark set by Wooster against Cabrini on Nov. 17, 2006; the 53 attempts broke the school record of 50 set against Lynchburg on March 5, 2016; and the 3-point field goal percentage of .472 broke the school record for 50 or more attempts (.280) set against Lynchburg on March 5, 2016.

Bonacum led Ramapo with 15 points.

Ohio Wesleyan returns to action in the D3hoops.com Classic on Saturday, when the Bishops face top-ranked Whitman.
