Box Score
Ohio Wesleyan 4, Thomas More 0

Junior midfielder Adam Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) and sophomore midfielder Matt Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) scored midway through the first half, and freshman forward Dom Calabrese (Beavercreek) and senior midfielder Will Sharer (Avon) added goals less than a minute apart as Ohio Wesleyan built a 4-0 first-half lead and went on to a non-conference win over Thomas More on Wednesday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

Scoring chances were hard to come by during the opening minutes of play.  Thomas More's Ethan Smith sent a 30-yard shot just over the crossbar in the 16th minute, and in the 22nd minute, Patrick Louis lined up for a 22-yard free kick but sent the shot wide right.

Ohio Wesleyan took the lead in the 24th minute.  Junior forward Ben Sobotka (Dublin/Jerome) had a shot blocked by the Saint defense, but Adam Yingling got to the loose ball and scored on the offensive rebound.

Less than 3 minutes later, junior back Brady Whittekind (Hilliard/Bradley) crossed the ball into the box to Matt Yingling, whose shot bounced off the right post and went in.

Smith made a run at the Ohio Wesleyan goal in the 29th minute, but junior goalkeeper J.P. Baughman (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) made the save at the right post.

Baughman stopped a shot by Suli Kayed in the 37th minute to keep the shutout going.

The Bishops increased the lead in the 42nd minute when Saint goalkeeper Jeff Paulin misplayed a back pass and Calabrese won the ball and scored into the empty net.

Just 34 seconds later, Sharer converted a penalty kick to give Ohio Wesleyan a 4-0 lead.

The Thomas More defense cleared a shot by junior midfielder Antonio Romanelli (Lewis Center/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) off the line in the 65th minute, and Paulin tracked down a Calabrese header for a save in the 70th minute.

"This was a perfect game for us to get prepared for the conference schedule," said Bishop head coach Jay Martin.  "Although it was 4-0, they are better than that.  Everyone played, and it was a good team game."

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Thomas More, 20-13.  Baughman made 3 saves and freshman Chase Agin (Blacklick/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) completed the shutout in the Bishop goal.  Paulin and Andy Geigle combined for 3 saves for the Saints.
