Sophomore midfielder Drew Wivell (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) scored in the third minute and Ohio Wesleyan added a pair of goals on penalty kicks on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Allegheny on Friday in Meadville, Pa.
Allegheny had the first chance of the game, but Jorge Olan sent a volley wide right of the goal from 5 yards out.
Ohio Wesleyan took the lead when sophomore back Isaiah Harris (Hilliard/Bradley) sent the ball to Wivell, who hit a quick shot from 10 yards out just 2:31 into the game.
Junior midfielder Adam Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) had a chance in the 20th minute, lining up for a free kick from 20 yards out, but his shot through the wall was tracked down by Gator keeper Cory Wiard.
Less than a minute later, Allegheny's Danny Reid was assessed a red card and the Bishops would play the remainder of the game with a man advantage.
In the 25th minute, junior back Joe Brush (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) converted a penalty kick to increase the margin to 2-0.
Junior goalkeeper J.P. Baughman (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) kept the shutout intact with a save of Liam KcKersie's header off a corner kick in the 28th minute.
Sophomore midfielder Matt Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) got free on a breakaway in the 41st minute, but Wiard was again there for the save.
Baughman left his line to smother the ball on a breakaway by Nick Taliani in the 85th minute.
Just 30 seconds later, junior midfielder Will Sharer (Avon) converted a penalty kick to make it a 3-0 game.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Allegheny, 25-12. Baughman made 3 saves in completing the shutout in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Wiard finished with 7 saves for the Gators.
