Ohio Wesleyan and DePauw played to a scoreless deadlock in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

After DePauw's Justin Mitchell sent a shot wide of the goal in the first minute of the contest, defensive play prevailed for the next 20-plus minutes, with the teams combining for 2 shots during that stretch.

Junior back Brady Whittekind (Hilliard/Bradley) had a look at a free kick in the 25th minute but sent the shot wide of the DePauw goal.

The Tigers' best chance of the first half also came on a free kick, but Sam Kramer's 35-yard drive was tracked down by junior goalkeeper J.P. Baughman (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales).

Junior midfielder Adam Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) lined up for a free kick from 30 yards out in the 51st minute, but his shot was stopped by DePauw keeper Austin Bodner.

Sophomore midfielder Drew Wivell (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) fielded a pass and made a run into the box in the 61st minute, but Bodner again made the stop.

In the 65th minute, sophomore midfielder Ryan Huelsman (Powell/Columbus St. Charles) sent a throw-in into the penalty area, and a header by junior back Charles Branche III (Washington, D.C./Landon (Md.) School) went wide, with Ohio Wesleyan earning a corner kick on the play.  Branche lined up a shot after the corner kick but the shot was blocked by the Tiger defense.  Huelsman got to the loose ball, but Bodner was there for the save.

The Bishops threatened during the final seconds of the half when junior midfielder Antonio Romanelli (Lewis Center/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) was fouled while attempting a 25-yard shot.  The Bishops scrambled to line up a free kick, but Romanelli's shot was blocked.

In the first overtime period, Baughman broke up one threat after a long DePauw volley into the penalty area.  The Bishops turned play around, earning a corner kick, but Branche's header was stopped by Bodner in the 98th minute.

Sophomore midfielder Matt Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) nearly ended the game in the 99th minute, fielding a pass from Wivell and launching a shot from the right side, but his shot went just over the crossbar.

DePauw threatened during the final seconds, with Jay Klein making a long run up the left side and turning the corner along the end line before centering the ball, but Jake Limauro's header was wide.

The second overtime saw a total of one shot between the teams, that coming in the 103rd minute when a Whittekind shot was blocked.

"That was a disappointing outcome," said Bishop head coach Jay Martin.  "We played very poorly the first half, and as a result, wasted 45 minutes.  We tried to make up for that and played much better during the second half and overtime.  After halftime, we had a good effort, but we have some work to do.  It's good that we have mid-semester break to get some things in order."

Ohio Wesleyan outshot DePauw, 21-5.  Baughman made 1 save while finishing with his third consecutive shutout.  Bodner recorded 7 saves for the Tigers.
