Freshman wing Gabe Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Wheaton St. Francis), junior post Tim Kiefer (North Olmsted), and freshman wing Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon/Jackson) connected on 3-pointers during a second-half 11-2 run that helped Ohio Wesleyan to a win over Allegheny in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops raced to an 8-0 lead on 3-pointers by Stanislawski and freshman post Nick Carlson (Dublin/Coffman) sandwiched around a lay-in by junior guard Jaret Gerber (Worthington/Thomas Worthington).  Stanislawski knocked down a pair of 3-pointers during a later 8-0 run that extended the Bishop lead to 25-9, and a lay-in by Johnson gave Ohio Wesleyan a 29-11 advantage with 8:53 left in the first half.

Lamar Todd and Jordan Rawls each scored a pair of buckets to rally the Gators, and the visitors pulled to within 35-24 when Todd split a pair of free throws with :00.1 on the clock.  Allegheny closed to within 40-34 on lay-ins by Todd and Rawls, and after a Gerber 3-pointer made it a 43-34 game, Rawls converted a 3-point play and Billy Urso knocked down a 3-pointer to bring the Gators within 43-42.

After a lay-in by junior post Grant Gossard (Westerville/Olentangy Orange), Todd converted a 3-point play and followed with a lay-in to put the Gators ahead, 47-45, with 13:19 left in regulation time.

Ohio Wesleyan responded with an 11-2 burst that included 3-pointers by Johnson, junior post Tim Kiefer (North Olmsted), and Stanislawski, with Stanislawski's 3-ball making it a 58-49 game with 10:35 remaining.

It was still a 74-66 Bishop lead after a Johnson lay-in with 2:39 left, but Todd sank a 3-pointer and Zach Ecker drove the right baseline for a dunk that narrowed the margin to 74-71 with 1:46 to play.

Johnson sank a pair of free throws with :25 left to make it a 2-possession game, and Gerber hit the second of 2 free throws with :14 remaining for the 77-71 final.
