Stanislawski, Gerber Fuel Bishop Runs

Freshman wing Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon/Jackson) hit a pair of 3-pointers during an 11-0 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and junior guard Jaret Gerber (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) added a pair of 3-pointers during a later 14-0 run that helped the Bishops pull away for a non-conference win over Adrian on Saturday in Adrian, Mich.

The Bulldogs led through most of the first half, assembling a 16-5 run in the opening minutes of the game behind 10 points from Jordan Harris.

Adrian led, 35-29, at the intermission and was still leading, 38-32, early in the second half.

Stanislawski hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Bishops a 39-38 lead, and Gerber and freshman post Nick Carlson (Dublin/Coffman) followed with hoops for a 43-38 Ohio Wesleyan advantage less than 5 minutes into the period.

Kas Oganowski and Kylon Jarreau  countered with baskets to end the Bishop run and bring the hosts within 43-42, and Adrian was still within 50-49 after a Jarreau lay-in with 11:12 left in regulation time.

Gerber then buried a 3-pointer and Stanislawski followed with a lay-in to kick off the 14-0 run.  Freshman wing Gabe Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Wheaton St. Francis), Gerber, and junior post Jake Hecker (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) followed with 3-pointers to extend the margin to 64-49 with 8:51 remaining.

A Carlson 3-pointer stretched the lead to 73-56 with 5:05 to play, but Adrian reeled off the next 9 points to pull within 73-65 with 2:08 to play.  Ke'Shaun Wyatt-Morris drove for a pair of lay-ins during the final minute to bring the Bulldogs within 6 points, but that was as close as the hosts would come.

Gerber led the Bishops with 19 points and 8 assists.  Stanislawski and Johnson added 14 points apiece and Johnson had a team-high 8 rebounds.

Harris led Adrian with 22 points.
