Ohio Wesleyan 2, Wooster 1

Junior back Brady Whittekind (Hilliard/Bradley) scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wooster in a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday in Wooster.

The Bishops threatened early, with junior midfielder Adam Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) getting off a shot after a corner kick in the third minute, but Fighting Scot keeper Will Collis was there for the save.

Sophomore midfielder Drew Wivell (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) had a look at the Wooster goal in the 11th minute, but Collis again made the save.

Yingling connected on a shot from the right side to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead in the 31st minute.

Held to only one shot in the first half, the Scots had a chance at the tying goal early in the second half, but junior goalkeeper J.P. Baughman (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) made the shot on Max Rochester's drive.

Wooster evened the score midway through the period when Manny Burton's crossing pass found Bennett Anderson in front of the goal, and Anderson finished the chance with 26:18 left in regulation time.

Whittekind answered for the Bishops, scoring off a throw-in by sophomore midfielder Ryan Huelsman (Powell/Columbus St. Charles) for a 2-1 lead with 21:13 to play.

The Ohio Wesleyan defense allowed only one shot on goal during the remainder of the contest, that coming with 6 minutes to play when Baughman tracked down a drive by Anderson.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wooster, 12-7.  Baughman made 2 saves in the Bishop goal, and Collis was credited with 4 saves for Wooster.
