Junior midfielder Antonio Romanelli (Lewis Center/St. Francis DeSales) and junior midfielder Adam Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) scored 2 goals apiece to lead the Ohio Wesleyan offense in a non-conference win over Waynesburg in the first round of the annual Fred Myers-adidas® Invitational on Friday at Selby Stadium.  The contest was the first men's soccer game to be played at Selby Stadium.

In Friday's other Fred Myers-adidas® Invitational first-round game, Capital defeated Hanover by a count of 7-2.

The Bishops took the lead in the 10th minute when sophomore back Isaiah Harris (Hilliard/Bradley) sent a pass to sophomore midfielder Drew Wivell (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area), who squeezed off a shot into the left side of the Yellow Jacket goal.

Yingling made it a 2-0 game midway through the first half when his shot from close range glanced off a Waynesburg defender and into the net.

Ohio Wesleyan increased its lead when sophomore midfielder Nathan Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) centered the ball to freshman forward Dom Calabrese (Beavercreek), who finished the chance at the 33-minute mark, and the Bishops struck again in the 36th minute when sophomore midfielder Ryan Huelsman (Powell/Columbus St. Charles) won the ball on the left side of the field and centered to sophomore forward Ben Sobotka (Dublin/Jerome), who scored with 9:13 left in the first half.

Early in the second half, freshman midfielder Hector Gomez (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) broke in on Waynesburg keeper Adam Dolan, who left his line and broke up the play, but Dolan was assessed with a yellow card on the play and Ohio Wesleyan was awarded a penalty kick, which Romanelli converted for a 5-0 Bishop advantage.

Just over a minute later, Wivell sent the ball to Harris on the right sideline, Harris ran the ball up the sideline and centered to Romanelli, and Romanelli finished in front to make it 6-0.

Yingling wrapped up the Bishop scoring with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute.

"This was a good start for us, obviously," said Bishop head coach Jay Martin.  "We have good depth, great speed, and great athleticism.  As soon as we get everyone on the same page, we'll do very well.  Waynesburg scored 6 goals in their last game, but they didn't get many chances tonight."

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Waynesburg, 26-5.  Junior J.P. Baughman (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) made 1 save during the first 59-plus minutes, and freshman Chase Agin (Blacklick/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) completed the shutout in the Bishop goal.  Dolan had 8 saves for Waynesburg.

The Fred Myers-adidas® Invitational continues on Saturday with Hanover playing at Ohio Wesleyan and Waynesburg visiting Capital.
