Senior outside hitter Jordan Brandt (Vail, Colo./Battle Mountain) and junior defensive specialist Meghan Schwallie (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) recorded career bests and head coach Kirsta Cobb surpassed a milestone as Ohio Wesleyan posted wins over DePauw and Case Reserve on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.
Ohio Wesleyan opened the day with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 win over DePauw. The win was Cobb's 100th at Ohio Wesleyan. The Bishops then defeated Case Reserve by scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-12.
DePauw opened the first set by taking a 6-1 lead, with Sera Little and Meaghan Etling collecting kills for the Tigers. Ohio Wesleyan scored the next 7 points, with junior middle blocker Amelia Richardson (Lakewood) providing 2 kills and Brandt and senior middle hitter Kenzee Martin (Urbana) teaming up on a block and each adding a kill. The Tigers were still within 12-11 when a 5-0 Bishop run provided some breathing room, with junior setter Molly Jewett (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley) and Brandt recording kills and freshman outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood) adding consecutive aces. A late 4-0 burst pulled DePauw within 23-20, but Eliza Richardson came through with a kill to help the Bishops close out the set.
In the second set, the Tigers broke a 7-7 tie with 4 straight points that included a kill and a block by Corri Rusk. With the score knotted at 17, Ohio Wesleyan finished off the set with an 8-2 run that featured 2 kills from Amelia Richardson and 2 more by junior middle blocker Erin Bitzer (Wassenaar, the Netherlands/American School of the Hague), including the final point that gave the Bishops the win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The visitors scored the first 3 points of the third set, getting a kill from Morgan Stearley and an ace by Grace Filbrun, and that 3-point margin would represent the biggest lead by either team for most of the set. Back-to-back kills by Eliza Richardson pulled the Bishops even at 9, and the score was tied at 22 when Bitzer and Martin notched back-to-back kills to put Ohio Wesleyan on the doorstep before Brandt closed out the match with a kill.

Case Reserve closed to within a single point on 2 occasions and was within 2 points several times, but the Bishops had an answer each time.
The Spartans opened the second set with a 6-1 run that saw 2 kills from Brianna Lemon and an ace by Jordyn Harberts. Back-to-back kills by Brandt helped Ohio Wesleyan rally to within 21-19, but Case Reserve scored the final 4 points of the set, with Katie Kaminski coming through with a kill and Karley King and Gianna Lambert teaming up for a pair of blocks, to take the set and even the match.
Brandt reeled off 4 consecutive kills during the third set, highlighting an 8-0 Ohio Wesleyan run that turned a 12-10 lead into a 20-10 margin. Jewett chipped in with a kill and an ace during that stretch, and Amelia Richardson had a kill down the stretch before Bitzer came through with another set-ending kill.
Ohio Wesleyan went up, 16-15, in the fourth set, but the Spartans countered with 4 straight points that included a kill and an ace from Kaminski to take the lead for good. A Brandt kill brought the Bishops within 20-19, and Ohio Wesleyan was within 23-21 after a Bitzer kill, but kills from Haley Sims and Kaminski gave the set to the Spartans and forced a fifth set.
The Bishops ran off 4 straight points to break a 5-5 tie in the final set, capped by a Brandt service ace, but the visitors rallied the even the score at 11 on a Meara Reeder kill. After Eliza Richardson and Kaminski traded kills for a 12-12 tie, Brandt delivered a kill to put the Bishops ahead to stay before Ohio Wesleyan got the final 2 points to take the set and the match.
Brandt finished with a career-high 28 kills against 6 errors in 63 attempts for a .349 hitting percentage. The 28 kills tied for fourth place on the Bishop list for a 5-set match. Jewett dished out 56 assists. Martin had a team-high 3 blocks. Schwallie wound up with a career-high 43 digs, good for third place on the Bishop list for a 5-set match.
