The Ohio Wesleyan volleyball team honored teammate Serena Scillia by hosting "Serena's Game" as the Bishops squared off against DePauw and Case Reserve on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Serena, 13, is a middle-school volleyball player who was drafted into the Battling Bishop volleyball program through Team Impact last year.  She has cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder which attacks the body over time and can affect the lungs, liver, intestines, kidneys, and pancreas.

For "Serena's Game," the team worked to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  With concession sales, game admission, bake sales, and donations all helping to contribute to fundraising efforts, a total of $2455 was raised for the Foundation, surpassing the team's goal of $1000.

Ohio Wesleyan also swept DePauw and beat Case Reserve in a 5-game thriller.  The victory against DePauw was head coach Kirsta Cobb's 100th win at OWU.

Between the 2 matches, the Bishops hosted a youth clinic, working on all volleyball skills.  Many of the children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program from Woodward Elementary attended the youth clinic.

"This past weekend was such a powerful one for our team," Cobb said.  "I am so proud of the work they put into Serena's Game and the success we had in creating a great event and fundraising 150 percent above our goal.  I am so thankful to all of the people that helped us create and run this event as well - it was an all-hands-on-deck situation, and many groups from the University stepped up to help us make it happen.  Special shoutouts to the OWU baseball team, Fiji fraternity, and Michael Taylor and his staff for helping us run a great event.  Also, a big thank-you to all that donated to the cause.  Seeing the impact it made on Serena and her family was an amazing thing for our team to be a part of.  The team also put in so much heart to the games to represent Serena and her fight, and it was really incredible to see the level at which they all played together to accomplish this team goal.  The team has completely bought into this process and are working hard together as a unit and having such a great time together.  This was a very special day that I think will stay with a lot of them for a long time."
