Senior forward Lexie Chafin (Powell/Olentangy Orange) scored the deciding goal with 6:15 left in the second half to give Ohio Wesleyan the win over Hiram in a North Coast Athletic Conference game on Saturday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

Following a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Brooklyn Buck (Kings Mills/Kings), Chafin connected with a loose ball and sent it into the right corner to give the lead to the Bishops.

Hiram had a chance at the tying goal, but Kylie Davis's shot from close range hit the crossbar in the 85th minute.

Hiram's Courtney Wendel made a run into the penalty area midway through the first half, but junior goalkeeper Emma Hall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) ranged out to block the shot.  Later in the half, Hiram's Val Lauderback redirected a corner kick at the Bishop goal, but the ball was blocked by the Ohio Wesleyan defense.

Both teams had an excellent opportunity early in the second half.  After an Ohio Wesleyan foul just outside the penalty area, the Terriers lined up for a free kick.  Hannah Ward's shot hit the crossbar, and the ball eluded a pair of Terriers.  The Bishops countered, but a shot by freshman forward Riley Welsheimer (Westerville/North) was saved by Hiram keeper Ally Green.

The Bishops had chances to score later in the half, when both junior forward Ashley Smiley (Delaware/Hayes) and Buck each had a pair of shots on goal.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Hiram 29-12.  Hall recorded 5 saves for the Bishops.  Green finished with 17 saves in the Terrier goal.
