Women's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime

Sophomore forward Julia Dickman (Marysville) scored to wipe out a 1-0 deficit, but Mount St. Joseph got the game-winner in the second overtime period for a non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday in Cincinnati.

The Lions outshot the Bishops, 8-7, during the first half, but while Ohio Wesleyan had the edge in scoring opportunities, forcing MSJ keeper Madison Hart to make 5 saves, it was Mount St. Joseph that took the lead when Stefanie Autenrieb scored off a Jodie Weimer pass with :32 remaining in the period.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the game in the 67th minute when junior forward Ashley Smiley (Delaware/Hayes) set up Dickman on a goal.

The Bishops threatened later in the half, with sophomore midfielder Brooklynn Buck (Kings Mills/Kings) putting a pair of shots on goal in a 30-second span.  Ohio Wesleyan had another chance in the 88th minute when sophomore midfielder Hannah Baughman (Louisville) had a shot saved by Hart, with the Bishops earning a corner kick on the play.  On the ensuing corner, a header by junior midfielder Caroline Elliott (Bexley) sailed over the crossbar.

Each team had a look during the first overtime period, with sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Floyd (Wilton, Conn.) stopping a shot by Weimer in the 97th minute and Hart making the save on a shot by Smiley just under a minute later.

Weimer set up the game-winner, feeding Paige Mersmann for the score with 3:27 remaining. 

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Mount St. Joseph, 17-15.  Floyd recorded 4 saves.  Hart was credited with 11 saves for the Lions.
