Senior outside hitter Jordan Brandt (Vail, Colo./Battle Mountain) set Ohio Wesleyan and North Coast Athletic Conference records in helping Ohio Wesleyan to a win over Alma in the NCAC/MIAA Challenge on Saturday in Lansing, Mich.

Ohio Wesleyan opened the day with a match against Adrian, with the Bulldogs winning the match by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-23.  The Bishops then bounced back to defeat Alma by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 20-25, 26-24.

Against Alma, Brandt zipped 13 service aces, breaking both the NCAC record of 12 set by Julie Stowers of Denison against Hiram on Oct. 27, 2004, and the school record of 9 set by Sheila Gisbrecht against Denison on Oct. 17, 1992.

A Brandt ace tied the first set at 21, and with the score tied at 22, a kill by senior middle blocker Kenzee Martin (Urbana) and an ace by freshman defensive specialist Morgan Haas (Marion/Pleasant) helped the Bishops take the set.  The second set saw the Bishops break a 12-12 tie with a pair of kills from junior middle blocker Amelia Richardson (Lakewood), a kill by freshman outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood), and a Brandt ace, and each of the Richardsons contributed a kill during a later 4-0 Bishop run that helped close out that set.

Alma stayed alive by taking the third set, breaking a 16-16 tie with a kill from Naomi Mason and an ace by Bailey Cantrell before getting 3 kills from Sara Majerle down the stretch.  Brandt delivered a kill to give Ohio Wesleyan a 24-21 lead in the fourth set, but the Fighting Scots came back with a pair of kills from Majerle to even the score at 24.  The Bishops responded with back-to-back kills from Amelia Richardson to take the set and the match.

Brandt and Eliza Richardson had 15 kills apiece for Ohio Wesleyan, while Amelia Richardson finished with 11.  Junior setter Molly Jewett (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley) racked up 39 assists.  Martin, junior middle blocker Erin Bitzer (Wassenaar, the Netherlands/American School of the Hague), and Amelia Richardson shared the team lead with 3 blocks apiece, and junior defensive specialist Meghan Schwallie (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) had 16 digs.

Against Adrian, the Bishops turned a 16-15 lead into a 21-15 margin with the help of a block and a kill by Amelia Richardson, then held off a late Bulldog rally to take the first set.

Ohio Wesleyan led, 21-19, in the second set before back-to-back aces from Adrian's Emily Haas tied the score, and a kill from Alex Tobler helped the Bulldogs to a 23-21 lead.  Eliza Richardson's kill brought Ohio Wesleyan within 24-23, but Adrian's Madison Federmeyer came through with a kill to end the set and even the match.  Adrian used a 15-4 run to take the third set.

The Bishops took a 23-20 lead in the fourth set on kills by Bitzer and Brandt, but Adrian scored the last 5 points of the set as Allison Ashurst combined on a block before delivering 2 kills.

Brandt and Amelia Richardson had 10 kills apiece for Ohio Wesleyan.  Jewett collected 32 assists.  Martin finished with 7 blocks, and Schwallie was credited with 15 digs.
