Senior guard Jaret Gerber (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) hit a 3-pointer that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead early in overtime, but Oberlin rallied for a win in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday in Oberlin.
Senior post Tim Kiefer (North Olmsted/Cleveland St. Ignatius) split a pair of free throws to open the extra session, but Oberlin's Wolf Moser answered with a 3-pointer to give the Yeomen the lead.
Gerber answered with a 3-pointer that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead, 76-75, with 4:10 left in overtime.
Moser hit another 3-pointer for the Yeomen, and Joshua Friedkin added a pair of free throws as the hosts took an 82-77 lead midway through the period. An Isaac Finestone 3-pointer extended the Oberlin lead to 85-79, and Christian Fioretti went 4-for-4 from the line during the final minute to keep the hosts ahead.
Ohio Wesleyan used a 10-0 run that included 3-pointers from sophomore wing Gabe Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Wheaton St. Francis) and freshman guard Bryson Lane (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) to stretch a 19-18 lead into a 29-18 advantage.
The Bishops would take a 31-20 lead into the locker room, and went up, 70-56, when sophomore wing Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon/Jackson) sank a pair of free throws with 2:37 left in regulation time.
Oberlin rallied with a pair of free throws by Andre Campbell, and after a Bishop turnover, Friedkin hit the first of 2 free throws and missed the second, with Finestone grabbing the offensive rebound and finding Moser for a 3-pointer. Moser drew a foul on Gerber on the play and drained the free throw to close out a spurt of 7 points in less than a minute. A Campbell lay-in and a Fioretti lay-in bought the Yeomen within 70-67 with just over a minute to play, and a Fioretti jumper narrowed the gap to 70-69.
Gerber sank a pair of free throws with :14 remaining, but Moser connected on a 3-pointer just before the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
Gerber led the Bishops with 19 points. Stanislawski finished with 16 points and senior post Grant Gossard (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) scored 14 points. Kiefer had a team-high 6 rebounds.
Fioretti led Oberlin with 20 points.
