Catch up with the Ohio Wesleyan volleyball team!
Head Coach: Kirsta Cobb
What has competition looked like this fall?
"We had scrimmages each week. The teams switched up every week and we put different groups and different people together to keep it competitive. That just finished last Friday," Cobb said. "We had 'Friendsgiving' this week to cap our season."
What have been the highlights of this fall?
"We didn't get shut down, we got to play the whole time, we had a full-on team experience from the time we started to the time we finished, and the team was responsible and followed protocol and was conscious of the team environment.
"We also have a deep team from a class standpoint. The seniors all played and led phenomenally during a semester that's been toughest on them from a volleyball standpoint, losing the season and being out of Branch Rickey Arena (with the renovation ongoing). They did not allow that do dictate to them, and I'm proud of them for playing so well and leading so well. The freshmen are learning quickly and getting connected into our systems really well. They've been able to learn and grow and make mistakes you make as a freshman. It's a really talented class."
What do you hope to carry over to the spring?
"The mindset of the sport being a place to bring joy. If we can continue to keep that mindset in the future as coaches and players, we can get really locked in.
"We had a semester to step back and have a good time with the sport, and work hard and learn. Having the time pressures off was refreshing, and if we can continue to keep that mindset, that would be awesome."
What could spring competition include?
"I'm hopeful we will be able to play a couple of conference teams or as many opponents nearby that we can safely play," Cobb said. "We would definitely like to have a home game in the (renovated) arena, and it would be nice to have a senior night. I know how much fun we had playing this fall, and if we can add some outside competition, it would be that much sweeter."
