2/4/2020 3:15:00 PM

Becca Madison, interim head women's soccer coach at Ohio Wesleyan University, will have the interim tag removed and become the program's head coach, it was announced by athletics director Doug Zipp.

Madison served as interim head coach at Ohio Wesleyan during the 2019 season, compiling a record of 8-11, including a 3-5 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference competition.  She was an assistant coach for the Battling Bishops during the 2016-18 seasons.

"I'm excited to stay on board," Madison said.  "As an alumna of the program, I'm thankful for the opportunity to stay and really appreciative of the support I've received from soccer staff, athletics staff, administration, and alumni.  I think this group has potential, they want to improve and understand the history of success this program has had, and I think we have the components to move the program forward."

"We're excited to have Becca take over leadership of the women's soccer program," Zipp said.  "Through our search process, Becca proved to be the outstanding leader who best fits our program at this time.  It's always intriguing when you have an alumna of the program who has experience as an assistant coach in the program to step up and take over."

Madison returned to Ohio Wesleyan after serving as an assistant coach at Rhodes (Tenn.) College for one year.  Prior to Rhodes, she spent 2 seasons as a graduate assistant at Smith (Mass.) College, including a stint as the Pioneers' interim head coach.  She also has youth coaching experience in Encinitas (Calif.), at the Berkshire (Mass.) Soccer Academy, at the Arlington (Tenn.) Soccer Academy, and in Delaware (Ohio).

Madison is a 2012 Ohio Wesleyan graduate.  During her Battling Bishop playing career, she was a 3-time, first-team All-NCAC selection.  As a senior, she helped the Bishops to an NCAC co-championship and an NCAA Division III playoff appearance.  She majored in health and human kinetics at Ohio Wesleyan and continued her education by earning a master's degree in exercise and sports studies from Smith.

She is a native of Charlevoix, Mich.
