Sophomore outside hitter Melissa Murray (Chardon/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) turned in a double-digit performance in kills, but Case Reserve defeated Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference match on Wednesday in Cleveland.

The Spartans won the match by scores of 27-25, 25-17, 25-20.

Case Reserve opened the first set with a 7-2 run that included a block, a kill, an ace, and an assist by Jennifer Ngo, and the Spartans extended the lead to 14-7 on an Ansley Yamaato service ace.  The Bishops rallied to within 15-13 with the help of a Murray kill and a block by freshman middle blocker Ava Kutilek (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and freshman outside hitter Natalie Buravlov (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), and Ohio Wesleyan was still within 19-16 after another Buravlov kill, but the Spartans scored the final 6 points of the set to take the lead in the match.

Freshman middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) delivered a kill to tie the second set at 15, but the Spartans scored the next 4 points, with kills from Rea Marfatia and Chloe Maciejewski along the way, to take the lead for good.  Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 21-19 on a kill by junior outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood), but Case Reserve scored the next 3 points to get to set point, then got a block from Ngo to end the set.

Kills by Buravlov and Murray helped the Bishops take a 6-3 lead in the third set, but Case Reserve broke a 9-9 tie with consecutive aces from Yamaato to take the lead, and a 6-0 burst that featured 3 kills from Marfatia stretched the Spartan lead to 20-12.  Murray came through with 3 kills down the stretch to help rally Ohio Wesleyan to within 24-20, but a Ngo block ended the set and match.

Murray led the Bishops with 13 kills.  Freshman setter Olivia Osuna (Orlando, Fla./Phillips) collected 28 assists.  Kutilek and Buravlov had 2 blocks apiece.  Sophomore defensive specialist Neah White (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) had a team-high 12 digs.
