Brooker, Gomez Receive Special Awards; Six Named All-NCAC

Ohio Wesleyan University sophomore Jaggar Brooker (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and senior Hector Gomez (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) received special awards as part of the All-North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer teams, it was announced today.

Brooker, a forward, was named Offensive Player of the Year and was a first-team All-NCAC selection.

Gomez, a midfielder, repeated as NCAC Midfielder of the Year and was a first-team All-NCAC selection.

Junior back Ethan Marshall (Bexley/Columbus St. Charles) also was a first-team All-NCAC selection, junior midfielder Cristian Gomez (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) and junior midfielder Ethan Love (Hilliard/Bradley) were second-team all-conference choices, and sophomore back Antonio Mendez (Guatemala City, Guatemala/High Mowing (N.H.) School) was an honorable mention pick.

Brooker ranks fourth in the NCAC in goals (10) and points (22), and his 6 game-winning goals on the season is tied for sixth in NCAA Division III.

Hector Gomez leads the Bishops and is tied for second in the NCAC in goals (11) and assists (7) and tied for the league lead in points (29).  He was named NCAC Midfielder of the Year and was a first-team all-conference choice in 2019, and was a second-team all-conference selection and was named NCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2018.

Marshall and Mendez are starters in an Ohio Wesleyan defense that leads the NCAC and ranks 18th nationally in goals-against average (0.59) and shares the league lead with 10 shutouts.

Cristian Gomez has compiled a goal and 2 assists while playing a variety of midfield roles this season.

Love has 1 goal this season.

Ohio Wesleyan is 14-2-2 on the season.  The Battling Bishops went 8-1-0 in NCAC competition, finishing second in the league standings.  Ohio Wesleyan will be making its NCAA-record 42nd Division III tournament appearance on Friday, when the Bishops face Knox (Ill.) in a first-round game at 4 p.m. at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
