Box Score
Capital 61, Ohio Wesleyan 56

Sophomore wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) and freshman wing Preston Crabtree (Marysville/North Union) hit 3-pointers and junior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) converted a 3-point play as Ohio Wesleyan narrowed a double-digit deficit to a single point, but Capital withstood the Bishop comeback and went on to a non-conference win in Ohio Wesleyan's season opener on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Comets jumped to a 9-0 lead with the help of a jumper and a 3-pointer from Ryan Suever, and after senior guard Curtis White (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) connected on a 3-pointer to put the Bishops on the scoreboard, an Alex Eyink jumper and a Joe Thompson 3-pointer extended the Capital lead to 14-3.

A lay-in by junior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) and 2 by freshman guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) brought Ohio Wesleyan within 14-9, but 3-pointers by Keandre Graves and Thompson stretched the margin to 20-11.

Ohio Wesleyan then went on an 11-3 run that included a White jumper and the 3-pointers from Carter and Crabtree, and the Spicer 3-point play made it a 23-22 game with 4:18 left in the first half.

The Bishops were still within 43-41 after a Carter lay-in midway through the second half, but Capital went on a 7-0 run highlighted by a Thompson 3-pointer, and the Comets were able to keep the Bishops at arm's length through the remainder of the contest.

Hinkle and Spicer led the Bishops with 14 points apiece, with Spicer and Carter each grabbing a team-high 9 rebounds and Hinkle collecting 4 assists.

Eyink scored 11 points and Thompson finished with 10 points for Capital.
