Case Reserve 4, Ohio Wesleyan 0 (exhibition)
Case Reserve scored a pair of goals late in the first half and went on to a win over Ohio Wesleyan in an exhibition game on Wednesday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
The Spartans took the lead in the 34th minute when Johanna Dunkers sent the ball ahead to Christina Hickson, whose shot rolled across the goal mouth and bounced off the right post. Melina Peshoff was there to tap in the offensive rebound to give the visitors the lead.
CWRU increased its lead when Helina VanBibber sent the ball ahead to Dunkers on the left end line. Dunkers centered to Brianna Van Zanten, who finished the chance from in front with :28 left in the first half.
Van Zanten converted a penalty kick early in the first half to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead, and Ella Copich bounced a shot off the right post and into the goal in the 66th minute.
Senior forward Ashley Smiley (Delaware/Hayes) had a good look at the Case Reserve goal, but Anna Gurian was there for the save in the 79th minute.
Senior Emma Hall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) made 3 saves during the first half and freshman Abby Markley (Westerville/North) stopped 5 shots during the second half.
