Sophomore outside hitter Kaitlyn Peters (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and junior outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood) contributed 10 kills apiece to lead Ohio Wesleyan past John Carroll in non-conference play in Wednesday in University Heights.

The Bishops won the match by scores of 23-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-21.

John Carroll took an early 5-2 lead in the opening set with the help of kills by Cassi Calamunci and Kailee Herbst, and the Blue Streaks held the lead throughout the set.  Freshman middle hitter Ava Kutilek (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) had a kill and senior outside hitter Hannah Williams (Columbus/Bishop Ready) added a block to bring the Bishops within 24-23, but John Carroll's Brooke Hjerpe followed with a kill to end the set.

Peters came through with a kill to cap a 7-0 Bishop run to open the second set, then 2 more Peters kills and 3 kills from freshman middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) helped Ohio Wesleyan close out the set.

Ohio Wesleyan used a 6-0 run to take charge in the third set, getting kills from Kutilek and Richardson and an ace by sophomore setter Abby Thierauf (Cincinnati/Milford).  In the fourth set, a Solberg block gave Ohio Wesleyan a 16-11 lead, but the Blue Streaks narrowed the deficit to 23-21 before kills from sophomore outside hitter Melissa Murray (Chardon/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and Solberg ended the match.

Peters and Richardson finished with 10 kills and Kutilek added 9 more.  Thierauf collected 41 assists.  Solberg, Kutilek, and Williams had 3 blocks apiece.  Sophomore defensive specialist Neah White (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) had 22 digs.
