Ohio Wesleyan split a pair of matches during the second day of the Bluffton Sommer Center Spiketacular, hosted by Bluffton University on Saturday in Bluffton.
The Bishops opened the day with a sweep of Bluffton, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-21. In the second match of the day, Ohio Wesleyan came back from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set, but Heidelberg won the match by scores of 21-25, 25-17, 28-26, 14-25, 15-12.
Against Bluffton, sophomore outside hitter Melissa Murray (Chardon/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and junior outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood) had 10 kills apiece to pace the Bishop attack. Sophomore setter Abby Thierauf (Cincinnati/Milford) recorded team bests of 29 assists and 8 digs. Freshman middle blocker Ava Kutilek (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) posted 3 blocks.
In the Heidelberg match, Richardson racked up 20 kills to pace the Ohio Wesleyan offense. Thierauf finished with 50 assists, freshman middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) had a team-high 5 blocks, and sophomore defensive specialist Neah White (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) led the Bishops with 22 digs.
Murray and sophomore defensive specialist Alex Disbro (Guilford, Ind./East Central) represented Ohio Wesleyan on the all-tournament team.
