Junior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) drove for a lay-in at the buzzer to give Ohio Wesleyan a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Oberlin on Thursday in Oberlin.
Oberlin had taken a 78-77 lead on a pair of Dorde Otasevic free throws with :25 remaining.
After Oberlin fouls at :06 and :05, Clement got the ball and drove for the game-winning bucket.
Ohio Wesleyan had opened the game with a 10-0 run that included 3-pointers by senior post Nick Carlson (Dublin/Coffman) and freshman guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and a pair of hoops from Clement, and the Bishops led by as many as 12 points, that coming on a Clement 3-pointer that made it 17-5 less than 5 minutes into the game.
Oberlin's Dimitrije Radusinovic hit a 3-pointer to start a 7-0 Yeomen run, and the hosts closed to within 35-31 on a Wolf Moser jumper late in the first half. Moser connected from long range twice during the opening minutes of the second half to even the game at 41.
A pair of Moser free throws tied the score at 69 with 4:19 remaining, and the teams traded points twice before a pair of free throws from junior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) gave the Bishops a 75-73 advantage with 2:39 to go, but Oberlin answered as Dorde Otasevic split a pair of free throws with 1:53 left, and Darien Knowles hit a jumper at the 1:11 mark to put the Yeomen ahead, 76-75.
Spicer then hit a lay-in for a 77-76 Bishop lead with :46 to go, setting up the final seconds of play.
Clement led the Bishops with 20 points. Hinkle and Spicer scored 14 points apiece, Carlson finished with 10 points, and senior guard Curtis White (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) led the team with 4 assists.
Radusinovic scored 18 points to lead Oberlin.
