Ohio Wesleyan 1, Wooster 0
Senior defender Isabella Geiler (Cincinnati/Mercy McAuley) made a crucial defensive play, freshman goalkeeper Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) posted her second consecutive shutout, and Ohio Wesleyan recorded the game-winner in the 76th minute in a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Saturday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
The win moved Ohio Wesleyan into a tie for second place in the NCAC, with the Bishops and DePauw each with 6 points with Denison in the lead at 7 points.
In the 35th minute, Ryan left her line to track down a crossing pass, but the ball popped loose and Wooster's Kelsey Maley got off a shot that Geiler headed away from the goal line to preserve the scoreless tie. Earlier, Wooster's Grace Gascoigne had a rolling shot hit the left post, but Ryan was able to cover the ball.
The Bishops took the lead when junior midfielder Jaelyn Dodson (Cincinnati/West Clermont) played the ball ahead to freshman midfielder Halle Dacek (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark), whose shot got past Scot keeper Kameryn Nelson but bounced off an onrushing Wooster defender and into the goal with 14:57 left in regulation time.
Maley had a look at the equalizer in the 78th minute, but Ryan was there for the save.
Wooster outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 24-17. Ryan finished with 4 saves in the Bishop goal.
