Junior forward Ali Claus (Milford) scored the game's only goal and freshman goalkeeper Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) recorded her third consecutive shutout as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wittenberg in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

The win moved Ohio Wesleyan into second place in the NCAC with 9 points, behind only Denison with 10 points, while the loss was Wittenberg's first in conference play.

The Bishops attacked the Tiger goal early.  In the fifth minute, Ohio Wesleyan earned a corner kick, but a shot by freshman midfielder Emma Weber (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) was cleared off the line by Wittenberg defender Sophia Grossman, and a shot by freshman midfielder Paige Neal (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) was blocked by the Tiger defense.

In the ninth minute, Claus sent a through ball to Weber, who broke in on Tiger keeper Katie Wisniewski, but Weber's shot glanced off the right post.  At the 10-minute mark, freshman midfielder Maya Burlingame (Canton/GlenOak) launched a shot that Wisniewski saved.

Wittenberg's best chance came in the 15th minute when Alex Hill got off a shot that Ryan stopped.

The Bishops took the lead in the 75th minute when Burlingame passed the ball ahead to freshman midfielder Athena Kolettis (Northfield/Nordonia), who turned the corner past a Tiger defender and centered to Klaus, who rolled a shot into the left side of the goal.

Wittenberg looked for the equalizer and earned a pair of corner kicks, but a pair of Tiger shots were off the mark.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wittenberg, 18-7.  Ryan finished with 3 saves in the Bishop goal.
