Ohio Wesleyan 1, Denison 1
Junior forward Ali Claus (Milford) scored to wipe out a 1-0 deficit, and Ohio Wesleyan went on to a tie with Denison in a matchup of the top 2 teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings on Saturday in Granville.
The tie kept Denison in first place in the NCAC with 11 points, and, combined with Kenyon's win over Hiram, leaves Ohio Wesleyan and Kenyon tied for second place with 10 points apiece.
The Big Red took the lead just over 10 minutes into the action when Amy Chiero lofted a shot into the top right corner of the goal.
Chiero had another look at the Bishop goal in the opening minute of the second half, but freshman goalkeeper Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) was there for the stop.
Claus evened the game in the 51st minute when she stole the ball from Denison keeper Molly Noga and scored into the unprotected goal.
The Bishops had a chance at the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute, earning a corner kick, but a header by sophomore defender Madison Cofer (New Albany) toward the right post was cleared off the line by Denison defender Kate Dalimonte, and a follow-up header by freshman midfielder Halle Dacek (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) also was blocked by Dalimonte near the right post.
Denison outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 19-5. Ryan finished with 3 saves in the Bishop goal.
