Senior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) sank a pair of free throws with :01 left to lift Ohio Wesleyan over Capital in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday in Columbus.
Capital had tied the game at 65 on a jumper by Dom Moegerle with :32 to play, and the Bishops worked the clock until Clement was fouled with a single tick remaining.
Sophomore guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) converted a 4-point play to give the Bishops an early 6-2 lead, and it was a 9-4 Bishop lead after Clement connected from long range at the 13:58 mark. Ohio Wesleyan would lead for much of the first half, extending the margin to a dozen when Clement scored the final 7 points of a 9-0 run to make it 29-17 with 1:59 left in the period.
Hinkle and Clement buried 3-pointers early in the second half to stretch the Bishop lead to 40-22, but the Comets came back with a 20-4 run that included 6 points from Joe Thompson and 5 from Alex Eyink, with Eyink's 3-pointer bringing the hosts within 44-42 with 10:38 remaining.
The Comets retook the lead at 52-51 when Ryan Suever hit a pair of free throws with 7:43 left, and went up, 59-57, on Eyink's 3-pointer at the 4:32 mark.
Clement tied the game with a jumper before Hinkle followed with a pair of free throws, and the teams would trade points through the final 3-plus minutes of action, with the Comets tying the score on 3 occasions before the Bishops retook the lead.
Clement finished with a career-high 36 points, while Hinkle added 21 points. Junior wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) had a team-high 10 rebounds, and Hinkle and senior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) shared the team lead with 3 assists each.
