Five Bishops Selected to All-Region Men's Soccer Teams

Five Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer players were named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-Region VII teams, it was announced by United Soccer Coaches.

Senior midfielder Cristian Gomez (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) and junior goalkeeper Mason Taylor (Marysville) were first-team all-region selections, senior back Ethan Marshall (Bexley/Columbus St. Charles) was a second-team all-region pick, and freshman forward Christopher Guerra (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) and sophomore back Brady West (Dublin/Columbus St. Charles) were third-team all-region choices.

Gomez compiled 2 goals and 4 assists while playing a variety of midfield roles this season.

Taylor shared the North Coast Athletic Conference lead and is tied for eighth among NCAA Division III players in shutouts (10), led the NCAC and ranks sixth nationally in saves percentage (.882), and ranked second in the NCAC and 14th nationally in goals-against average (0.588).

Marshall and West were starters in a Bishop defense that allowed only 12 goals on the season, including only one in conference play, and ranks 15th in NCAA Division III in goals-against average (0.593).

Guerra led the Bishops and ranked fifth in the NCAC in goals (9), led the team and ranked fifth in the conference in points (20), and tied for second in the NCAC with 4 game-winning goals.

Ohio Wesleyan finished the season with an 11-5-4 record.  The Battling Bishops went 6-0-2 in NCAC competition, finishing second in the league standings, then won the NCAC tournament.  Ohio Wesleyan made its NCAA-record 43rd Division III championship appearance and advanced to the second round of the tournament.
