Senior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) scored 8 points during the final 5 minutes of regulation time to help Ohio Wesleyan build a lead, and the Bishops held off a Wabash comeback to take a North Coast Athletic Conference win on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena and hand the Little Giants their first conference loss of the season.
Ohio Wesleyan led, 67-62, after Wabash's Champ McCorkle split a pair of free throws with 5:03 remaining.
Clement buried a jumper to stretch the lead to 7 points, and after senior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) split a pair of free throws with 2:13 to go, Wabash's Gavin Schippert and Clement traded 3-pointers, giving the Bishops a 73-65 lead with 1:28 left.
Ahmoni Jones hit a 3-pointer for the Little Giants, and Sam Comer followed with a jumper from the lane to make it a one-possession game at 73-70 with :33 left.
Fouled in the backcourt, Clement sank a pair of free throws with :23 remaining, but the visitors got the points back on an Edreece Redmond lay-in at the :17 mark.
Clement split a pair of free throws for a 76-72 lead with :14 left, and Comer scored on a putback and drew a foul, then sank the free throw to bring the Little Giants within 76-75 with :02.7 left.
Senior guard Curtis White (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) was fouled with :01.9 left and missed the first free throw, then missed the second free throw intentionally, and while Wabash cleared the rebound, the Little Giants were not able to get off a shot before the buzzer.
Clement led the Bishops with 31 points. Spicer finished with a double-double, collecting 20 points and 10 rebounds, and had a team-high 5 assists. Sophomore wing David Rice (Brook Park/Parma Padua Franciscan) finished with 14 points.
